Group Work: No Excuse For Not Trying

Ladies and Gentlemen,

I read an article which discussed President Obama's speech on children and education. He said,

"There is no excuse for not trying. The truth is, being successful is hard. You won't love every subject that you study. You won't click with every teacher that you have."

Discuss and answer the questions below with your group.

1) What do you think about this statement? Is it true, false? Have you ever experienced difficulty in being successful?

2) What advice could you offer to students who may not like a particular subject or teacher, but still want to be successful?

3) If you are having difficulty in a class, would you ask a peer (someone your age) for help?

Peace,
Mrs. Miller

  1. We think that if a student doesn't like the subject or teacher then he or she should keep practicing, stay focused and eventually they will succeed.

  2. we think that the statement is true because it happened it to us before. we can say to the kids that they should push themselves so that they can get the education that they need.

  6. I think that this statement is true. That is because everyone has trobles with different subjects. I for one strugled in subjects but then I tried my best and did better.

  7. 3: We strongly think you should ask a peer for help because the teacher could be busy with something and the person could have the right way to do it. These are our reasons that you should ask a peer for help. :)

  8. We strongley feel that you should ask your piers for help because its easier to ask them for help then the teacher. Yes they will help you.

  9. 3.) Our opinion is that you should ask a peer for help because if they know the correct answer they can help you figure out the answer.

  11. (2) If you really and truely want to be successful you should tough it out. No one ever said being successful would be easy! :-)

  12. 3: our group thinks that you should ask the teacher because they already learned it.also we would feel more confident with the help the teacher gave us.Lastly,we would ask the teacher because our peers might not know the answer.
